SUSTAINABLE DESIGN IS AN ESSENTIAL CHALLENGE OF TODAY
THINK GREEN – GREEN ARCHITECTURE is our approach for all designs and implementations. The shaping of our architectural environment was long solely determined by aesthetic and user demands, without paying attention to the earth’s diminishing and non-renewable resources. This makes it especially necessary today to sensitively think about the use of materials and their overall energy consumption. Therefore, we made it our job early on to plan our projects with sustainable criteria. Renewable energy, careful material selection and optimized energy performance are the focus of our approach. The development of ‘green’ buildings, to Willen Associates Architects, is not only an exciting but also an inevitable exercise – most importantly, it is the core of our design philosophy. To us, nature is the best model during a project’s conception. Flora and fauna provide manifold examples for a clever use of physical, aerodynamic and climatic laws. With the construction of a termite hill, nature points us to a great example of responsible architecture and planning. The complex form shows us a resource-protecting, yet resource-utilizing construction of the highest level. Always built exactly on a north-south axis to the sun, it contains a perfect ecological thermal system and therefore all characteristics of sustainable architecture.
